Open position for one Data Scientist

The Data and Web Science Lab (Datalab) research lab of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is looking for one (1) student to collaborate on a research project in the field of data science. 

  • The collaboration can be in the framework of a research project and/or thesis
  • Potential for part-time contract
  • duration: 3-6 months (possibility of extension)
  • Starting date: immediately

Role description and main tasks

  • Data collection from online sources (e.g., public datasets, APIs), preprocessing, storage
  • Apply basic data science to analyze data, obtain insights, generate results/plots
  • Deliver well-written and well-documented code (in python)
  • Collaborate with other researchers to co-develop code and results
  • Participation in the activities of the project AI4NetMon

  • Collaboration with industry (RIPE NCC) and international team of researchers
  • Participation in state-of-the-art research, and potential for publishing in top conferences
  • Potential for extension of collaboration (e.g., duration, or full-time)

Skills / qualifications

  • Python: excellent knowledge
  • Data science: very good knowledge of basic data science methods
    (probability/statistics, exploratory data analysis, ML models for
    classification/regression/clustering) and libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib)
  • English: very good knowledge

Other desired skills (optional)

  • Advanced machine learning methods (e.g., deep learning)
  • Familiarity with building and/or using APIs (e.g., flask or fastapi frameworks)
  • Databases: relational (e.g., MySQL) or non-relational (MongoDB)
  • Javascript and/or visualization frameworks (e.g., d3js)
  • Graph analysis (e.g., networkx) and fundamentals
  • Computer networking
