QS Apple 2021

Prof. Athena Vakali, director of Datalab, is speaking at the 17th edition of QS APPLE 2021 which will gather higher education thought leaders and experts to examine the “Future Rebalance: Emerging trends and workforce in the Asia Pacific” from 1-3 November 2021.

Hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University, with the Prince of Songkla University as the co-host, this year’s virtual program includes interactive panels and keynotes spread across 5 exciting conference tracks: Crossing Disciplinary Divides; Thriving Through Collaboration; Cultivating Great Minds; Finding the Next Big Thing; Student Flows During a Pandemic.

Prof. Vakali will be participating in Panel Discussion 1: Crossing Disciplinary Divides (Research Innovation) on November 1, 10:00-11:00am.

In an increasingly connected world, global challenges are too complex to be addressed within traditional disciplinary boundaries. Instead, solutions to global challenges lie at the intersections of disciplines and require a breakdown of barriers between fields where scientists and social scientists alike collaborate and tap the benefits of scientific discovery to create real-world impact. Artificial intelligence is a catalyst bringing the fields of natural and social science closer together. As artificial intelligence increasingly delves into the world of humanities, it may come to question what it means to be human. What role does higher education have in fostering the blurring of disciplines and ensure that advances in artificial intelligence are used for the good of our communities?
